Sun, Moon, and Clouds
Some favorite photo ops on travels involve simply looking up to see the sun rise or set, the moon, or just beautiful cloud formations. So I thought I would collect some of them together here. The one above is a particular favorite: sunset over Tupper Lake in the Adirondacks, in 1975.
Though we've traveled widely, some of the best views have come in our own front yeard, so to speak, so I'll begin there.
My work "home," University at Albany, has also provided some views just by stepping outside my office building.
Other opportunities have arisen while literally being transported. Here are views from a Viking Ocean Cruise that included 4 days when the sun never set, resulting in quite amazing lingering sunset/sunrise views that lasted for hours!
Viking River Cruises have also offered opportunities for beautiful sun views on the water.A cross-Canada train trip provided both sunsets and sunrises.
A Western road trip also offered many sunrise and sunset photo ops, from Salt Lake City
to Nevada
and Lake Tahoe. other views in Florida
And flying offers views from airports and in flight. Here are views of Albany airport (above) and of NYC & Chicago.
There have been plenty of views in our home state of New York: the Adirondacks,
Catskills & Canandaigua,
Lebanon Valley Speedway, and along the Thruway.
Also views nearby in New England: the Maine coast
and New Hampshire mountains, and Ottawa, Canada.
There have also been sunrise photos in the Smokies,
other sun vistas in the MidWest: in WI around Madison and in Door County,
in Charlevoix MI, and Springfield IL.
Western views include Dallas,
Santa Fe,
Island travels have brought some wonderful views in Hawaii
and Tahiti. Of course, our travels through Europe have yielded many beautiful sunsets and sunrises: classic scenes on the Greek island Santorini,
a few from Croatia,
a romantic moment in Italy and along the Mediterranean in Turkey, a view in Scotland
and a few that I'm not sure about the location.
Sometimes it's just the clouds that provide a show, here at home.
These are in Denmark and Rio,
Lake Placid and Norway, and New Mexico.
plus others in various locations.
The moon can also put on a show rising &seting: over the North Sea and Grand Canyon,
