Rambling with Russ

Welcome! Marjorie & I have visited 48 states, 9 Canadian provinces, 26 European countries, plus Vietnam, Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti. And our own Northeast offers many options for day trips and B-and-Bs. I've shared trip journals with a loyal (or long-suffering) readership of family and friends. After retiring I started this blog hoping others will find my accounts and photos interesting, and maybe find useful travel tips.

About Me

My photo
Russ Ward
When I retired after 41 years as a sociology Professor, I thought I’d indulge and combine my interests in writing, travel, and photography. I love to plan trips and we’ve had an eclectic mix: escorted tours and river cruises; independent air/hotel packages; others arranged by Tour Director Russ. Some range widely around a country or 2 or 3, others focus on a city and environs. A variety of transport modes: autos, trains, boats, diverse city metro systems. My informal in-the-moment diary style is a nice break from my “academic” writing; but Marjorie tries to rein me in with her editing if I’m too cryptic. Photography is another long-time interest, from “Instamatic” to slides to digital. Photos presented here combine scanned slides (edited as best I can to recapture original color & lighting) and digital. I've mixed in older with more recent trips, adding in new trips as they occur, arranging by region (and "labels"). I hope you find what’s here interesting and enjoyable.
